It is impossible to pin down the exact genre of the music played by the Wels-based band "Loving the Alien." After all, the only things this quintet stuffs into drawers are wool socks—certainly not their songs. Lea Föger, Niklas Pichler, Patrick Pillichshammer, Melanie Aspöck, and Lukas Staudinger demonstrate this with their debut album, "The Blinded You" (Bleeding Star Records).
"The Blinded You" features twelve rock songs with a psychedelic touch and an almost ethereal, floating quality; these are grounded by euphoric folk rhythms, delicate violin accents, accordion sounds, and hard guitar riffs. Recorded at the Hof Studios in Regau, the album will be available via iTunes, at live performances, and through the band's website (www.lovingthealien.at). On stage with strings, winds, and a choir The quintet — named after the David Bowie song of the same name — has certainly come up with something special for their CD launch event. "It’s going to be a very special concert," promises singer Lea Föger. "We’ll be on stage with a string quartet, wind players, and a choir. That’s the same large-scale lineup we used to record the album." On February 22, the "Aliens"—who gained valuable experience last summer opening for Amy Macdonald at Clam Castle—will be supported by the indie band "Léyya" and the "JFT-Trio."
