The Last Dinner Party - Prelude to Ecstasy - The Film

Prelude to Ecstasy: The Film is a short film by The Last Dinner Party directed by Harv Frost. The film serves as a visual for their debut album of the same name, Prelude to Ecstasy. It premiered at the Prince Charles Cinema in Soho, London on September 12, 2024, and worldwide on their official YouTube channel on the same day.

Act One - Prelude to Ecstasy

Abigail Morris arrives at a boarding dance academy attended by Aurora Nishevci, Emily Roberts, Georgia Davies, and Lizzie Mayland and overseen by Miss Benner (played by Chantal Riches). As Abigail assesses the new environment, the bell rings and the students are summoned to class.

Act Two - The Feminine Urge

In the ballet studio, the five students each reveal their own "feminine urges." Lizzie auditions for Miss Benner with an interpretive dance that grows slowly more feral, Abigail cathartically smashes plates and glasses in an empty dining hall, Aurora cuts her teeth conducting a symphony in what is revealed to be an empty room, Georgia peels back her skin, and Emily, adorned in gold and gilded angel wings, shreds her guitar to her heart's content, each devolving into madness.

Act Three - Gjuha

Later that night, a storm brews as sleep evades Aurora. She stares at the lightning outside her window, only to realize that there is paranormal lighting now projected within her own dorm room. Getting out of bed, she follows a blinding light through a door while Lizzie and Abigail watch from a distance. As Aurora finally faces the light, she is slowly taken into the forest.

Act Four - Sinner

Once in the forest, Aurora is then found by Emily, Georgia, Abigail, and Lizzie. The five run through the forest and fields before getting into the water. Lizzie is plagued with visions of the water and a basement party. While the four run by the fire, Abigail drowns.

Act Five - Burn Alive

Suddenly, Abigail wakes up back in her bed in her dorm room, seemingly unharmed from her aforementioned drowning, but in low spirits. Finally, she gets out of bed and dresses, and puts a VHS tape into her television. Once the tape starts, Abigail is captivated by the images of a mythologized Aurora, Emily, Lizzie, and Georgia. Eerily, Emily's eyes begin to glow green before the tape cuts to static. As Abigail approaches the TV, distraught at the loss, she is suddenly sucked into the screen. Horrified and entranced, she watches as a glamorized version of herself performs onscreen with the other four. She runs out of the room and into the main hall, screaming in agony, or ecstasy, as she is consumed by the vision of the other-her. As a flaming specter takes her place, the figures in the TV stand in place, eyes glowing green.
