Jefferson Starship - Fast Buck Freddie

Fast Buck Freddie: The leadoff track to Jefferson Starship's popular Red Octopus album is a driving set of wandering Grace Slick lyrics fueled by lead guitarist Craig Chaquico's mainstream chord changes. The double-entendres fly right and left over a sound that's a precursor to the arena rock the remnants of this group would eventually embrace. A dozen years later when Starship was singing "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now," the KBC Band would issue a MTV video of the song "America" with musical elements from this adventure. It's Papa John Creach who keeps the sound underground with his marvelous violin, allowing Slick room to hold the notes which contain her sarcasm. Pete Sears' bass moves alongside the guitars and percussion as Gracey's frustration with the record industry probably went right over the executive's heads. "Sing it now while you still have a song" is the command after all her questions -- "what's going on I ask you/who's comin' on is it you or me?" For the artist creating, recording, and touring, the singer's warning is clear, "think fast."  From: https://www.allmusic.com/song/fast-buck-freddie-mt0001293751#review
