On Monday, the journey begins. The trip will take us back to Ukraine (we've already been there twice) through the traditional song entitled Karchata, masterfully reinterpreted by Folknery. The lyrics and melody will show us how the soul of a nation remains faithfully enclosed in its ancient songs: a treasure often forgotten, but which occasionally resurfaces because there is always someone in the world who recognizes its immense value. Where can we find Folknery? Who knows? The Ukrainian duo is on a long journey… Karchata is an authentic ancient Ukrainian song. The video, lyrics, and melody convey mysticism, evoking an ancient legend etched in the collective memory of this European country. Karchata is the story of two ghost girls. Friends in life, they both fell in love with the same young man, and one day, during tea time in the apple orchard, they poisoned each other by secretly pouring poisonous berry juice into each other's cups. In the garden where the young women died, their ghosts continue to linger, reliving the same unfortunate and fateful event every day for many, many years… Who are Folknery? They are a Ukrainian ethno-folk band formed by two musicians constantly traveling through their country and beyond, in search of authentic traditional songs and new and unpredictable musical collaborations. They travel exclusively by bicycle. Currently, the duo consists of Yaryna Kvitka (vocals, hurdy-gurdy, mridangam) and Volodymyr Muliar (percussion, guitar, vocalist). The aim of the project is to rediscover, but also to promote, folk music and, more generally, Ukrainian culture in the world. Since 2010, Folknery has traveled more than 35,000 kilometers, crossing 22 countries. Their journey is still underway, and who knows where it will take them... Where do they find the strength to cycle every day? Clearly, from the energy infused by ancient folk compositions.
