Herbert - Cattle Call
These four Americans definitely have every Black Sabbath and Monster Magnet album on their shelves. Want to bet? The eleven songs on "Steppin' Off To Eden" sound pretty much exactly as if Dave Wyndorf had become the successor to good old Ozzy and had listened to a lot of progressive metal with the rest of the band. At least, these groups are likely the most clearly recognizable sources of inspiration for Herbert's album. And the result is quite impressive: varied songwriting, catchy yet not overly poppy melodies, and intelligent tempo changes, presented by excellent musicians, make Herbert interesting for anyone who has found the stoner rock genre a bit too monotonous lately.
